MillWorks! Makers + Arts Market

MillWorks! Makers and Art Market held at the Mill at Shelburne Falls (located on the Buckland side of the Iron Bridge) arrives on Saturday, October 15th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. For the first time selected studios in the Main Building will be open to the public. The Mill has onsite parking and is located 49 Conway Street, Buckland, MA. Admittance is free.

Molly Cantor, potter and founder of the Handle Factory Community Clay Center, will conduct tours of the clay studio. From 11:30 am to 12:30, the Desmond Burke Trio plays an upbeat mix of Irish-Americana on the Penstock stage. The group features singer/songwriter Desmond Burke on guitar, Matt Gravel on mandolin and Charlie Conant on guitar and resonator guitar. Tenant residents include a mix of both 2D and 3D artists, vintage sellers and makers. Large scale paintings by Aldo Pizzi grace the mill hallways. Working in the classical tradition, landscape painter Ann Lofquist opens her studio to sell large and small works featuring imagery of the Mill and its environs. Laura Iveson displays her photo transfer art and Julia Carroll produces handprinted paper goods such as cards and matted prints. Award winning contemporary quiltmaker Carson Converse, works in a range of disciplines, her quilts blur the line between craft, fine art and design. Other resident textile artists include Katie Cavacco of Free Ramblin’ Kids with wearables and play items for young children including baby and toddler booties; Elisabeth Radysh has her line of whimsical soft toys and handweaver and felt maker Sue McFarland introduces a new line of felted wool gathering baskets and wall hangings. Woodworker Pat Moriarty, the guiding hand behind the Conway Chair Company, makes heirloom quality hand sculpted chairs, tables and stools. Glass artist Jeremy Sinkus uses flameworking to manipulate glass and uses a process called coldworking to he cuts and polishes the glass like gemstones. Resident vintage vendor Brad Walker has a wide selection of candles, votive holders, and collector/decor items. Liam and Rosalyn Walker have cleaned vintage bottles and similar items recovered from an old dump site at The Mill. Community makers and artists participating in the market include: Caroline Mannaerts, colored pencil/ink drawings, upcycled drip tape baskets; Larisa Volkavichyute, Illustrated jewelry, prints, and tote-bags; Liz Foss Quilts, potholders, spicemats, table runners, place mats, and wall quilts; Megan Hart of Hart Pottery, stoneware and porcelain with animal/floral motifs; Davenport Maple Farm, maple syrup, candy, maple coated nuts and photo notecards; Eva Stuglovics of Soapisticationart, handcrafted, vegan soaps and body care products with essential oils, herbs and clays; Brook Batteau of HypnoBling Jewelry, fine elegant jewelry designed and manufactured for healing; Katherine MacColl of K. MacColl Bags, totes and box bags created from beautiful classic and hand-dyed wool fabrics; Rachel Gunnard, simple, bold handmade jewelry by a former architect in sterling silver, brass, and gold and Shir Glassworks with a line of glass beads, jewelry , cups and seasonal sculpture.

Millworks! is supported in part by Lamson and occupies the former knife factory site of Lamson and Goodnow. Open during market hours, the adjacent Lamson and Goodnow Factory Store has special discounts and promotion on knives and kitchen products. The Mill has onsite parking and is located 49 Conway Street, Buckland, MA. Admittance is free and is a mask friendly event.
